Chapter 259 His Hand Is to Help
Others
“Why did you do that?” the man asked repeatedly.
Maura gradually collapsed under such interrogation. She half-squatted and half-knelt on the dirty cement ground, crying and defending herself. “I just wanted to make Evelyn misunderstand. I didn’t do anything. I just didn’t want to see her get everything so easily!”
When Evelyn heard this, she unconsciously moved closer to Huston. He grabbed her shoulder and said coldly, “Take her
away. You know what to do.”
“Yes, Mr. Lloyd.”
One of the burly men responded and dragged Maura to the door. Then, he closed the door and disappeared from the
surveillance camera.
A woman’s scream came from outside the door a few seconds
later. Evelyn was so scared by the sharp voice that she got goosebumps. She looked uneasily at the man beside her.
“What did they do to Maura?”
“Don’t worry. No one will die.” There was no change in Huston’s expression. He was so calm that it was as if he hadn’t heard
anything.
This was how this man was. He had no sympathy for the things that he hated. Especially after Maura had done such a
thing, he wished he could torture her to death.
Evelyn felt a little frightened. Although she greatly hated Maura, everything she saw was beyond her imagination.
No one would die.
This was the bottom line. Would she lose her arms and legs? Would someone else…
Evelyn didn’t dare to think any further. She clenched Huston’s
hand tightly, and it seemed she still could hear Maura’s shout.
“Huston, don’t do this.”
Huston lowered his head and looked into her slightly trembling eyes. His palm patted her back gently with comforting force. “It’s okay. I’ll turn it off if you’re afraid.”
As he spoke, he wanted to turn off the connection with his
other hand.
Evelyn blocked his movement and shook her head seriously. “Don’t do this. You can punish Maura for what she did through
normal means. I don’t want you to do anything out of line because of this.”
Huston smiled. “I don’t care.”
He would do anything for her.
Seeing that he was determined to do this, Evelyn tightened her grip and said in a serious tone, “But I mind.”
Before he could speak, Evelyn added, “You’re a lawyer, and your hands and head are used to help others, not to do these things. I don’t want you to be tainted because of Maura.””
To Huston, doing such a thing was already an insult. Original from NôvelDrama.Org.
Huston had not expected her to say that. He had thought she had called for him to stop because she was afraid and that
the scene in front of them might stimulate her, but he had not expected her to think about him.
When he heard these words, he was a little stunned.
After years of being a lawyer, from being unknown to achieving success today, Huston had seen all kinds of people. Some sought his help to exploit loopholes, and others
regarded him as their winning weapon. Yet, no one had ever told him that his hands were meant to assist people and save
them.
He was a lawyer, a famous lawyer across the country. Both businessmen and officials respected him because they were afraid that they would be “taken care of” by him. However,
very few people truly respected him and respected this profession from their hearts.
How could he not be moved by her words?
