Chapter 391

Elaina stared at Jalen until he disappeared from the entrance of the apartment. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she had to wipe them away from the corners of her eyes in case they streamed down her cheeks. She turned around and was about to go back.

However, when she turned around, she saw Jaydon standing not far away.

Jaydon was very embarrassed. He did not expect that just eating pasta at Elaina’s place would cause her and Jalen to break up.

Although it was what he wanted, he realized that he was not that happy when he really saw it happen.

“Are… Are you alright? I didn’t do it on purpose.” He had a guilty conscience, not daring to look into Elaina’s eyes.

Elaina walked past him and did not say anything.

“Ella, I didn’t expect you to break up with him. I…” Jaydon caught up with her, worried.

“It’s none of your business,” Elaina said. The tone of her voice was cold and plain. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Jaydon was just a trigger at most. Without him, when Elaina knew that she was a substitute, she would still break up with Jalen.

Jaydon heaved a sigh of relief when he heard her say that. He knew it. How could the pasta cause the two of them to break up? That was ridiculous.

Elaina walked into the elevator. Jaydon tried to follow her in, but Elaina stopped him coldly, “Why are you following me? It’s late now.”

“I’m afraid that you will be sad. So I think maybe you want my comfort.” Jaydon smiled dryly. It was a good thing that they broke up. Now he finally had a chance.

“No need.” With that, Elaina pressed the button to close the door. As the elevator door closed, she disappeared from Jaydon’s sight.

Jaydon did not continue to follow her. Elaina might want to be alone for the time being. If he kept pestering her, she might find him annoying.

Making up his mind, Jaydon left and decided to tell this good news to his grandfather. Tyrone would be very happy if he knew about it.

Compared to Jaydon’s high spirits, Elaina’s mood was quite low.

In fact, when she said that they were over, she thought that Jalen would say something. She thought that Jalen would disagree, but out of her expectations…

Elaina shook her head. Even if he disagreed, so what? If he disagreed, would she still be with him?

Could she endure being someone else’s substitute?

The answer was no. She could never do that.

They were meant to break up.

Rubbing her eyebrows, Elaina felt that it was a good thing for both of them. She and Jalen should not be together in the first place, and now everything was back on track again.

She lay on the bed with her eyes closed, forcing herself to fall asleep and not think about anything else.

At the same time, Jalen was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window of his office. There were several cigarette butts at his feet, showing how agitated he was.

It was exactly what Graham saw when he pushed open the door and came in. He could not help but be worried.

“Mr. Halton, I understand that you want to see me.” Graham walked over and was about to ask what happened, but then he bit his words back.

Jalen put out the cigarette in his hand and looked at Graham. “I need you to carry on two things for me. First, spread out the news that I broke up with Elaina, especially to that man’s ears.

“Second, contact the board of directors. I want to meet them again.”

Jalen did not believe that he could not convince those old fogies. He could give them what Steven could give them, or even more than what Steven promised to them. He did not believe that those people would not be tempted.

Graham nodded. Then he was surprised. “You and Ms. Gainsford… Have you split up?”

Jalen did not say anything, but it seemed to Graham that it was a yes. Graham was shocked. “Why? Did Mr. Halton say anything to her?”

Jalen shook his head and didn’t explain. “It’s not important. After we break up, Steven won’t keep an eye on Elaina anymore.”
