Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Sophie kept her tantrum going for a quite a while.
She’d gotten the attention of the entire floor to come and watch the spectacle.
The floor containing the office of Earth Group’s CEO was as rowdy and bustling as a marketplace.
Jolene had to get rid of Sophie before Bowen returned.‘
She quietly instructed Joyce to contact someone, a Miss Viona Gellar.
In twenty minutes, Viona had arrived.
At that moment, Sophie was seated at Jolene’s desk and screaming at the secretary to get on her knees. She wanted to see her beg for forgiveness and promise to never seduce Bowen ever again.
After taking one look at the scene, Viona rushed to apologize.
“I’m very sorry, Miss Marsh. My sister has been spoiled by my family. I’m so sorry.”

She was the image of gentleness and sensibility. She didn’t hesitate to bend forward and bow in remorse.
Jolene simply held her arm and softly whispered, “Miss Gellar, please take your sister back home. It’s best that Mr. Evert doesn’t know about this.”
Viona looked at the woman in front of her.
She’d been unexpectedly slapped in the face, ridiculed by her sister, and ogled at by those on the floor.
And yet here she was, as calm and collected as ever. She never failed to maintain control of her situation.
The corners of Viona’s lips twitched as she forced herself to smile.
“I’m so sorry, Miss Marsh, this won’t happen again.”
“What’re you apologizing for, Viona? I saw her flirting with my brother–in–law last night, and this morning I saw them coming out of the same neighborhood! This woman-”
“That’s enough!” Viona roared, interrupting her sister. “Hasn’t this been humiliating enough? We’re going home right now!”

She dragged Sophie to the door but not before she sent another hasty apology to Jolene.

“Miss Marsh, why don’t you stop by the hospital and get your face examined? I’ll cover all of your medical expenses.”
“There’s no need.” Jolene escorted them to the elevator, still her smiling self. “It’s nothing serious. I already have some medicine.”
With one last bow, Viona tugged Sophie into the waiting elevator.
As the doors slid shut, Jolene tilted her head back to watch the blinking numbers descend. She didn’t turn around until the elevator had reached the first floor.
Joyce poked her head out from a corner and cautiously asked, “Miss Marsh, should I bring you a cooling ointment?”
“No, it’s okay.” She began to walk back to her office. “I’ll just splash some water on my face later.”
“That Viona Gellar really knows how to behave properly. As the face of the Gellars, she’s definitely on a different level…” Halfway through her sentence, Joyce caught Jolene’s eye and hurriedly corrected herself.
“I mean, her sister is terrible though. The worst!”

Jolene just smiled, knowing not to take it seriously. “Well, Viona has always been classy like that. By the way, please tell the others that no one’s allowed to speak about what just happened. No one should let Mr. Evert know.”
“Oh.” Joyce nodded, “Of course, I’ll talk to them, but, Miss Marsh, is your face really okay?”
She nodded and retreated to her office at last.
She approached her window just in time to see the Gellar sisters walk out of Earth Group.
Suddenly, as if sensing her presence, Viona glanced up in Jolene’s direction.
However, Jolene made no move to hide. After all, she was on the nineteenth floor. She doubted anyone could see this far up.
It didn’t matter whether Viona truly was remorseful for her sister’s actions or if she was also in on the act.
They got their point across, showing that they knew about her relationship with Bowen.
They had Sophie try to deliver a blow.

It was a message for her to know her place.
However, Viona wasn’t stupid.

Jolene let out a laugh before going to find the bathroom. She washed her face gently, enjoying the soothing feeling of the cool water. Since she didn’t have time to redo her makeup, she just dried off and resumed working.
When Bowen finally returned in the afternoon, he instantly noticed her lack of makeup.
Although she was already beautiful, she always applied a light makeup look when coming to work.
So, when Jolene visited him to hand in her report, he asked nonchalantly:
“What happened to your face?“
