CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery

Chapter 1488

The going rate for housekeepers in the area was usually around $10 an hour, but this family was offering $16. It was definitely a high pay. A quick shift would bring Jamie close to $60, and she couldn't pass up such a good opportunity.

Mrs. Lawrence chuckled, "I'll send you the exact address. They've got a smart lock, so you can just head over; they'll unlock it remotely. This family's loaded, and they appreciate help that's thorough and meticulous. If you do well, this could even turn into a long-term gig." Jamie put down the phone and hugged her son, "I'm sorry, sweetheart. I wanted to spend more time with you today, but Mrs. Lawrence just called, and I have to go to work now."

Of course, she wanted to be there for him, but if she stayed, she wouldn't be able to earn money, and without money, there wouldn't be funds for his treatment.

And what good would it do for him to have her around but no access to the medical care he needed?

"Mom, you don't have to apologize. I should be the one saying sorry," Charlie held her hand, "You're the best mom in the world, spending everything you make on me." Jamie felt a warm glow in her heart. Her son understood her. After slicing him an apple, she headed to the Spring Garden Apartments for her shift.

Meanwhile, Ben was dropping Winnie off at home but made no move to get out of the car.

"Aren't you coming in with me, Jack?" she asked, unbuckling her seatbelt and looking at him. "You've been so busy lately. Don't overwork yourself; we have more than enough." She wasn't the kind of woman to constantly demand more money; she already felt grateful for the life they had. Living in a big house like this had once seemed like a far-off dream. "When the baby arrives, our whole world will revolve around them. Jack, I love you for who you are, not because of the balance on a bank account. When you work so hard, it worries me."

Her words were heartfelt. Since they

had moved in together, Ben had spent most nights sleeping in the study. At first, she had felt puzzled, even bringing him tea a few times, only to find him buried in work. It left her both touched and concerned.

"If I don't work hard, how can I support you, the baby, and... your sister too?" he replied, pausing.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.

"You've already given her tens of et

thousands, and it's still not enough. She's even thinking about using our house as collateral."

"That was my idea, not hers," Winnie rushed to explain. "My sister's struggling, and I just want to help. Without treatment, Charlie could die."

She wasn't trying to be reckless with money. It was just that Charlie's situation was urgent. In the long run, even if Jamie spent her life repaying, it would simply take longer. But if Winnie didn't help now, Charlie's path would be cut short.

"She's my sister. I can't be that heartless."

"Do you even know who Charlie's father is?" Ben asked, wanting to gauge whether she knew anything about the past.

Winnie shook her head. It wasn't that she didn't want to answer. She genuinely had no idea.
