The File

“What could this be about? No way!” she said, covering her mouth in shock. There were two different paper in the large file.

Anita took down the file and climbed her bed very well, took out everything around her as she started going through the paper.

“Cases?”

Those papers contained cases that she could never had dreamt of holding. There were even cases of crimes that would occur in two days.

“How did he manage to know criminals’ secret?” she asked in whispers to no one in particular as his brows creased in worry.

Yes she knew he was an officer of the law, but this was way too much of information. How did he manage to do that? Does he have connections in the underworld?

Anita thought about so many things, but in conclusion, she refused to accept that he has connection with criminals to be able to have such in a file.

Should she be scared, she thought. She didn’t think she should because, after all, she was his girlfriend. He should be able to protect her from harm’s way.

Should she really do this? She thought, trying to take her mind away from this, but on another thought, she didn’t think she was doing something so wrong.

The was going to build her into a top reporter in this City, all she had to do was to make him look better in the public’s eyes all the time. It didn’t seem like a hard task for her though.

In fact, it would be an honour to her if her man could be the number one officer the society respects. His bravery was topnotch.

Kate had not heard any sound since Anita walked in and she was already feeling a bit worried.

This was so unlike her. Pushing open the door to the main room Anita was in, she got in and jam it shot. Anita jumped in fright. She had not expected anyone to come in.

“W.. what’s wrong? Why… why… are you here?” Anita asked, her heart pounding in fright.

Kate stood for sometime, seeing how her girlfriend was acting.

It was then she knew that something was definitely not right with Anita. Walking to her, she climbed the bed and looked into Anita’s eyes.

“What’s with the fright on you face?” she asked.

“Fright? What fright?” Anita asked, trying to cover up her face.

“Anita fright. I see fright in your eyes. This is not the Anita that just walked in a few moment ago.” Kate was already getting worried for her friend.

“Kate, trust me, I am fine. Go to sleep.” Anita said, trying to convince Kate to leave.

“No way Anita! And what’s that thing in your hands? Anita asked, as she grabbed the paper out of Anita hands.

Anita never expected it so she jumped up to get it back but it was Kate she was dealing with…

“Kate please stay out of this. I have it under control.” Anita nervously said on seeing Kate’s expression.

“Anita!” Kate said silently.

“Yes! Kate!” Anita answered anxiously.

“Anita!!” Kate called again.

Anita was so worried that she didn’t know when a tear slipped out of her eyes.

“Kate! Trust me, I really don’t understand this either. I don’t even have an idea what I am getting myself into.”

“Anita why do you have these? And how did you get them?” Kate finally opened her mouth to ask.

“Officer Thomas gave me.” she replied.

In another building, inside a room sat Andre as he focused on the laptop in front of him. Soon, he heard a knock on the door.

“Come in.” he said without looking up.

Cass walked in quietly and gently shot the door behind him.

“Hello master” Cass bowed respectfully.

Andre shook his head as he never took his attention away from the laptop.

“Master, this is the file you requested earlier.” Cass said as he reported to Andre.

Andre paused what he was doing to take a look at his assistant. He then nodded his head and took the file from him.

Inside Anita’s room, both ladies sat still on the bed not knowing when and how to start up a conversation with the other.

After what seemed like forever, Kate looked at Anita.

“Anita, ever since you started dreaming of coming into New York City, apart from being a reporter, you have keen interest in the entertainment industry. But, from what I can see here, you are trying to get involved in the force world. You are not the police dear, plus this City can be pretty weird. I don’t think this is so okay for you. The corrupt top residents can do something to harm you if care is not taken.” Kate said aloud, stating her fears.

Anita couldn’t speak for some minutes as she thought about all the things that her friend had just said.

She was right. But what could she do now? She had already come this far. “Kate, you are right, but see where fate has gotten me to. First, it was the incident, then Officer Thomas, the date, the offer, not long after, I became his woman. So literally, we are now partners. I think Thomas really likes me with the way he looks at me and speaks to me. If I ever got into danger, I am sure he would he able to save me. He is capable Kate. Just trust me.” Anita said, trying make Kate understand her.

She didn’t think she needed anyone to tell her to look back at the moment. She just wanted to go with the flow of life.

“How sure are you that this guy will protect you at all cost?”

“Kate he will. He is my man now right?” Anita confirmed and decided to rest the case. She lifted her bed spread and went to sleep.

The next day, Anita made her way to the office first thing in the morning with one of the paper in hand.
