Chapter 37
The moment Sage mentioned Sawyer Norah’s name, everyone in the family was stunned. Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
One of Jace’s uncles jolted to his feet and said, “What did you say? Sawyer Norah is your dad?”
Jace too had his brows furrowed tightly together.
Although it had been almost three years since the passing of Sawyer Norah, his reputation still preceded him. His brilliant and unprecedented legacy survived his passing, staying alive till this very day.
Sawyer was considered a genius in the business industry.
Within only half a year, Sawyer had built up the Norah Group to be the most influential company in Salem City. A year after he founded Norah Jewel, the business was listed as one of the top companies in the jewel industry and had been in a fierce rivalry with Yuriel Jewel. Within the span of three years, Norah Jewel had triumphed over Yuriel Jewel and had secured an official partnership with DT, the diamond trading company. A year after that, Norah Jewel had been selected as the official supplier for the international jewel industry, and this placed Norah Jewel on the international platform.
People thought that Sawyer would have slowed down a little once he had achieved this milestone, but instead, he rode the momentum and started expanding into real estate, hotel management, film, and even food and beverage. Norah Group grew bigger and more influential until it finally was able to rival the Yuriel Group.
The Norah Group had been listed as one of the top five hundred companies in the country, and Sawyer Norah himself had been nominated as one of the most influential businessmen in Forbess.
That very year, both of Jace’s uncles had been defeated by Sawyer. Even though Sawyer was no longer around, the very mentioning of his name still had an effect on them.
Sage nodded her head. She was aware of the rivalry between the Norahs and the Yuriels. This was the reason why she had decided to hide her real identity when she got married to Jace three years ago. She was worried that the Yuriel family would not accept her into their family.
“Why did you choose to marry into our family when you’re one of the Norahs? What intentions do you have?”
At the mention of the Norah family, Jace’s second uncle was all worked up as he had been overshadowed by Sawyer Norah, and this had left a scar. As Sage was Sawyer’s daughter, Jace’s uncle naturally projected his resentment toward Sage.
“Son, keep it down. Why are you getting all worked up?”
Jace’s grandfather scolded his son. He then looked at Sage with a softened expression. “Sage, go on, take your time.”
Hearing Jace’s uncle’s question, Sage desperately wanted to defend herself, but she was reminded of how kindly Jace’s grandparents had treated her, and Sage restrained herself, maintaining composure.
Calmly, she replied, “I am aware of the rivalry between the Norah and Yuriel families. There have been quite a few conflicts, but all of those have been peacefully resolved. Both families have agreed to expand their businesses in their respective cities, the Norahs in Salem and the Yuriels in Nadeem.”
Seeing how Jace’s grandfather was nodding his head, Sage went on, “Three years ago after the passing of my parents, I was appointed to take over the Norah Group. Due to some conflict within my
family, I had temporarily stepped down from my position. Norah Group, under the management of my uncles, had almost had to file for bankruptcy. It’s understandable that you would think that I had other intentions in mind when I married into the Yuriel family. However, if I did have other designs then I would like you to think as to why I did nothing when the Norah Group was facing bankruptcy? Throughout the three years of my marriage, I’ve played my role as a daughter-in-law of the Yuriel family, and I had done nothing that was out of line. You could ask Jay if you don’t believe me.”
She glanced at Jace who was struggling with his own thoughts. At the mention of Jay’, he looked up abruptly and met Sage’s eyes.
Before he could come back to his senses, Sage quickly looked away.
Under the heated stare of his family, Jace nodded gently in agreement with Sage’s remarks.
In fact, when Sage had walked out of his family without demanding any type of compensation, he had begun to find her suspicious. He had been confused as to why she had not demanded anything from him.
Besides, Sage had been a housewife for three years, and she did not even work.
Jace had concluded that it was either that her integrity was too important to her, or she did not need the money at all.
Now, it seemed like Sage Norah had it all.
As the precious daughter of Sawyer Norah, she must have led a comfortable life. It was natural that she was brought up with integrity and dignity, and money would never have been an issue for her. That was how she had managed to save Norah Group from bankruptcy. However, there was one thing that he did not understand, and it was that thing that Sage had yet to explain.
